Heroum for Pericles of Lycia

Limyra

Limyra was known as Zemuri in ancient times.

Pericles of Lycia (not Greek Pericle) worked tirelessly for Lycian League, eventually achieved the unification of Lycian cities. After his death, a heroum had been constructed for his memory, from which only the roof remains at its place near the caryatids, whereas many other details as well as reliefs are now in Vienna Museum.

A model of Lycian house. The structure of the houses is mainly composed of a stone basement and wooden upper structure. Wooden parts were destroyed and disappeared further to fires and earthquakes.
